A Rockin' Date Night

Last week we had a great date night....after a few snags.  One of my coworkers has season tickets to Broadway in New Orleans and offered them to us for Wednesday night's performance of Rock of Ages.  Let's start there!

ROA is the hilarious story of Drew and Sherrie, the Bourbon Room, and the Sunset Strip in the 80's.
The music covered all the classics,  from We're Not Gonna Take It and We Built This City to Journey's Don't Stop Believin.'  My favorite had to be their version on Can't Stop this Feeling Anymore.

Before the show we went to Sylvain for dinner.  We don't make it over to the Quarter very often and when we do we've typically gone a bit more classic (read $$$$) for dinners, so we wanted something a bit more casual for this dinner.    Luckily in New Orleans, if you show up at 6:30 on a Wednesday, it's pretty easy to get a table, and Sylvain was no different.

Fried eggplant with lemon aioli was our starter and it was ok.  I felt like the plater was a bit sloppy, so there were large portions of the eggplant overwhelmed with lemon, while others had nothing.

Patrick tried their burger and fries (shocker!) and really enjoyed it.  Not his favorite burger in New Orleans, but a quality burger none the less.

I skipped the burger but definitely partook of the fries.  They may have been my favorite part of dinner, especially with my seared flank steak.  The salsa verde was delicious and a perfect pairing with it.  The corn salad was fine, but not unlike something I could make at home.

Overall Sylvain was very average to me.  Pair that with the hassle of getting there and we probably won't be back for a while.  Just not good enough to mitigate that to us.
