New Orleans Eats: Crescent City Brewhouse

We arrived in New Orleans around dinner time, with no idea where to go.  So, we started walking through the French Quarter and checked out a few menus, but almost everywhere with decent looking food also included delicious French bread.  When we checked out Crescent City Brewhouse, they had fish that Patrick and I both like and our friend Ben loves it, mostly for the beer.

I had the Grilled Tuna Orleans "Fresh Ahi tuna grilled, topped with sauteed Jumbo Shrimp with a red onion confit, portobello mushrooms and pan seared tomatoes in a lemon beurre blanc."

Let's go top to bottom.  The red onion confit was not impressive.  The idea was good, but it tasted like a sweet, sugary mess.  The shrimp was nice and briny, but overcooked, which is my ultimate pet peeve.  The spinach was delicious, so now we're down to the tuna.  Well seasoned, but overcooked (I prefer rare, this was medium).  I'm really glad the beurre blanc was there because it made the slightly dry tuna much better.   Overall, not bad but not great.

Patrick had Red Fish St. Louis "Fresh red fish pan seared, topped with crispy fried oysters and smothered with a spicy barbeque sauce of butter, black pepper and worcestershire served with a side of au gratin potatoes."
We've become big fans of red fish lately, but this is a different animal.  It's amazing how versatile it is with different seasonings and sauces.  This is the kind of barbeque sauce I love.  Simple, but delicious. Otherwise everything was ok, not bad, not good. Patrick's favorite part of the meal was the Black Forest beer, because you don't really go to Crescent City Brewhouse unless you are drinking beer.
