Jackson Metro Eats: Cerami's

I am so, so sorry I have been slacking on the blog lately.  I PROMISE I have some fun updates coming up this week, but before we get to those, let's talk about Cerami's (Urbanspoon).  Patrick and I have changed up our date night plan, so now, we alternate restaurant picks and if it's your restaurant pick, you also pick the appetizer.

Cerami's is a small, family, Italian restaurant.  It is right on Lakeland, north of Dogwood Festival Market.  This is one place you should not judge a book by the cover.  It's in a strip mall location, with a bright blue and red sign.

We started with fried cheese sticks.  They were, at best, average.  Not bad, but not great (Starkville friends know The Grill ups your cheese stick standards.  Next, both our entrĂ©es came with the "salad wagon."  It's a hot dog cart, with all your salad "fixins," Italian style lettuces, creamy Caesar dressing, olive salad, and Gorgonzola cheese.  Now, I'm not a huge fan of buffet style serving, but this is a good Italian salad.  The dressing is really, really good, and the olive salad just makes it fabulous.

Now to the good stuff, dinner.  Patrick had Cannelloni Florentine, Cheese, beef, and spinach stuffed in two homemade pasta crepes topped with Alfredo sauce.  I asked Patrick what he thought about it, and he said all he can remember is that it was really good.

I went with the Veal Picatta.  It was breaded veal with a lemon and garlic butter sauce with capers and mushrooms  with a side of angel hair pasta.  The veal was ok, but overcooked, I thought.  The angel hair pasta was good, but the best part of this dish was the lemon/butter sauce with capers and mushrooms.  It had real flavor!   I want to scoop the mushrooms up and eat them now.

Finally, we decided that dessert would be good.  I love, love tiramisu, and this was pretty good.  I have had better, but not in Mississippi!  It was creamy, dreamy, and really hit the spot

  1. @Jennifer and Lan: It's like 5 minutes from our house. It's pretty good and it's super close so we have gone a couple times.

  2. Just at a Cerami's for the first time tonight and was positively blown away. You're right, the wagon wheel salad was unexpected for the pricing, but my gosh was it tasty. I had manicotti, which was perfectly delicious. What really sold me on the place was the owner's kindness. I have a handicapped child in a wheelchair, which you can imagine makes dinning in most places a daunting task. The owner went overboard to make sure that we were comfortable, even going beyond anything expected by bringing her some free ice cream.
